Asian cocktail bar in Rotterdam: where to go for Japanese cocktails
If you want Asian cocktails in Rotterdam, go to a bar where the drinks lean on Japanese ingredients and spirits, and where you can eat properly with them. GYŌZA BAR at Witte de Withstraat 77A is built around that idea. It is a Tokyo-after-dark style Japanese bar with eight Japanese cocktails on the menu, made with yuzu, lychee, sakura and Japanese spirits, and hand-folded gyoza, ramen and small plates to go with them. You do not need a reservation. You just walk in.
What makes a cocktail "Asian"?
A cocktail is not Asian because of a paper umbrella. Look for these things:
- Asian ingredients in the glass, such as yuzu (a Japanese citrus), lychee, sakura (cherry blossom) and ginger.
- Asian spirits, such as Japanese whisky and Japanese gin, instead of the default vodka and rum for everything.
- Food that belongs with the drinks. In Japan, drinking and eating go together in an izakaya, a pub where the food matters. More on that in What is an izakaya?.
If a menu ticks those three boxes, you are in the right place.
Which Japanese cocktails can you drink at GYŌZA BAR?
The cocktail menu has eight signatures. The house style leans on Japanese spirits from the House of Suntory: Toki whisky and Roku gin, with Hibiki behind the bar.
